Description

The Behavioral Health Faculty will be responsible for the development and implementation of the behavioral health curriculum at MaineHealth Maine Medical Center’s Family Medicine Residency in Portland. This is a professional, clinical teaching position, providing teaching, curriculum development, and overview of the education of the Family Medicine Residents and medical students in Behavioral Health, particularly in relation to the biopsychosocial model of patient care, assessment and management of mental health and substance abuse diagnoses, interpersonal violence, motivational interviewing, family-oriented care, and the doctor-patient relationship. The Family Medicine practices in Portland and Falmouth serve a patient population with diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Education: Knowledge of psychosocial theories, therapies and techniques as used in individual, family, and group treatment at a level normally acquired through the completion of a Master’s degree in Social Work, Clinical Psychology, or closely related field of study, plus 2 – 3 years of progressively more responsible work experience – or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • License/Certifications: Current Clinical license in the State of Maine.
  • Experience: Appropriate experience and credentials to obtain faculty appointment to Tufts University School of Medicine, and provider status to health insurers.
  • Knowledge and skills in therapy and motivational interviewing to counsel patients, families, and groups.
  • Interpersonal skills to teach residents, students and faculty regarding behavioral health, therapy and motivational interviewing, and to provide feedback through simulated patient experiences and direct observation or student/resident –patient encounters.
  • Research and writing skills to assess impact of educational programs; write curriculum, standardized patient scenarios and grants to support educational efforts.
  • Organizational skills to coordinate, ensure equitable access and/or schedule resident observation sessions and participation in Wellness Group Medical Visits.
