Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner - Virtual Perinatal Behavioral Health

MaineHealth Virtual Care Perinatal Behavioral Health is recruiting for an experienced Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) working per diem. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides primary psychiatric medical care for perinatal outpatients via Telehealth in the MaineHealth Virtual Care Department under the Virtual Care Perinatal Behavioral Health program. The Nurse Practitioner will provide pregnant and postpartum patients with virtual face-to-face psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and health care. The position includes developing and recording a plan for effective and timely treatment for patients. Experience or education in perinatal behavioral health is preferred.

Essential Functions:

• Work collaboratively with patient’s primary clinician in diagnostic evaluation, on-going medication assessment, and therapeutic treatment
• Provide health screening, medication injections and education regarding medications
• Order necessary and appropriate laboratory work and evaluate results
• Identify clinical concerns and bring those to the attention of the supervising physician/Medical Director
• Respond to requests for medical consultation in a timely fashion
• Prescribe medical treatment within scope of practice
• Complete medical records per policy
• Schedule regular supervision with primary care physician or medical director
• Respond to medical emergencies and determine need for transfer to accepting facility in collaboration with psychiatric care when needed
• Participate in on call rotation with other members of the staff
• Actively participate in Gemba presentations, development of team key performance indicators, data collection and problem-solving to improve quality and outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: Successful completion of an approved Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with a Master’s Degree level of education is preferred. 
• Current and valid license as a Nurse Practitioner by the Maine State Board of Nursing and qualified to do psychiatric evaluations and medication management. Specific credentialing criteria needed if working in the hospital as defined by Medical Staff By-Laws.
• Experience: 2+ year of patient care in a community mental health center or hospital is preferred.
• Advanced skill and knowledge in conducting psychiatric evaluations and treating patients.
